1. The Landlord and Tenant Act 1954: When it Applies, Including Upwards Only Rent Review Clauses

The Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 is the bed rock of commercial leases and is essential for any property professional. The course aims to look at various situations where the Act applies. In addition, the Government has introduced legislation which intends to ban upwards only rent review clauses in leases within the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 in England and Wales.
Topics covered include:
- Exclusion of the Act;
- Leases and licences;
- Tenancies at Will and holding over;
- Occupation for business purposes under the Act; and
- The English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill which intends to abolish upwards only rent review clauses in Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 leases.
2. Leasehold Alienation, Alteration and User Covenants: Pitfalls and Solutions

These covenants are a staple for commercial property professionals but present various pitfalls. The course aims to look at some of the problems and solutions.
