The Solicitor’s Group guide to working from home

Thousands of us are likely to be working from home over the forthcoming weeks. Despite this being common practice for many (roughly 15 million people regularly work from home on a regular basis), for some it’s a brand new experience. . You’ve been set up with all the hardware and software and access to files that you need, and you’re having meetings over the phone or internet with colleagues and clients. But it is still a different work environment.

Here are the top 5 tips to keep your productivity high when doing your work from home.

1. Make sure you keep the same routine as you would in the office.

Every night remember to set your normal alarm, wake up and get ready how you usually would (wear clothes you would to work). Have a substantial breakfast and drink plenty of water throughout the day.

2. Choose a suitable work space.

Although you aren’t in the office, still ensure you’re working in a quiet and suitable area of which you can have full concentration and no distraction. Avoid working in your bedroom or lounge or other areas associated with leisure. Make sure your work surface is clean and easy to use efficiently – use the kitchen table, not the bed!

3. Take regular breaks to help concentration.

Whether this is just going to make a drink, something to eat or take a walk for some fresh air. Make sure you are allowing yourself to have short breaks to keep motivations high. This is also very essential for your overall wellbeing.

4. Make a ‘to do’ list.

You can write this at the beginning of your working day or add to this throughout the day. This will not only keep you up to date with what work needs doing but it’ll also show you your progress which will keep you motivated.

5. Keep in contact ‘phone a friend’.

In the office, you’re around your colleagues and you are always able reach out to them if you need anything. Still do this! Keeping in contact with your colleagues will keep you in the loop of everything that is going on.

We had a number of enquiries regarding our services after the event and we feel our attendance there was important to our overall brand exposure.
